Privacy at a glance
Kitabia is designed to store your prayer records, spiritual-habit sessions, goals, Quran bookmarks, and preferences locally on your device.
- Does not require an account.
- Does not include advertising or behavioral-tracking SDKs.
- Does not sell personal information.
- Does not operate a cloud service that receives your prayer or spiritual-habit history.
- Uses location to calculate prayer times, Qibla direction, and location-dependent notifications.
- Connects to third-party services when downloading Quran fonts, playing recitations, or obtaining location-related information.
Information processed by Kitabia
Location information
With your permission, Kitabia may process:
- Precise or approximate coordinates.
- The device's last-known location.
- City, administrative area, and country obtained through reverse geocoding.
- The date and source of the last successful location update.
Location is used to calculate prayer times, determine the Qibla direction, and schedule prayer notifications.
If you enable Travel Mode, Kitabia may receive significant location changes while running in the background so future prayer notifications can be recalculated after meaningful travel. Travel Mode is optional and disabled by default.
Your most recently verified coordinates may be stored locally on your device. Kitabia does not send your location to a Kitabia-operated server.
Prayer and spiritual activity
Kitabia stores information you enter or generate while using the application, including:
- Prayer completion, timing, and quality.
- Quran, Qiyam, Zikr, and Duaa sessions.
- Session timestamps, durations, and off-screen time.
- Fasting records.
- Goals, plans, progress, and streak information.
- Quran bookmarks, last-read page, reciter selection, and reader preferences.
This information is stored locally and is not transmitted to us.
Device and application settings
Kitabia may locally process or store:
- Timezone and local calendar date.
- Prayer calculation method and madhhab.
- Notification preferences and scheduling status.
- Whether exact-alarm or notification permission is available.
- Display, brightness, background, and session preferences.
- Downloaded Quran-font status.
The device compass may be read to display the Qibla direction. Compass readings are not sent to us.
Support communications
If you contact us, we may receive your email address, message, and any diagnostic information you voluntarily provide. We use this information only to respond to your request, investigate problems, and comply with legal obligations.
How information is used
Information is processed to:
- Calculate prayer times and Islamic midnight.
- Display the Qibla direction.
- Schedule and maintain prayer notifications.
- Record and display spiritual progress.
- Operate Quran reading, bookmarking, and recitation features.
- Restore user-selected preferences.
- Support optional data backup and restoration.
- Diagnose failures reported by the user.
Where required by law, processing is based on your consent, performance of the features you request, our legitimate interest in supporting the application, or compliance with legal obligations.
Third-party services
Although Kitabia does not upload your activity history to our servers, certain features contact third-party services.
- Operating system
- Location and geocoding services may process coordinates to obtain location or place information.
- Islamic Network / Al Quran Cloud
- May receive network requests when Quran recitation audio is played.
- Tarteel / QUL
- Content-delivery infrastructure may receive requests when optional Quran fonts are downloaded.
- Google Fonts
- May receive a request if a required display font is not bundled or already cached.
- Apple or Google
- May process application data included in device backups, depending on your device and backup settings.
These providers may receive ordinary network information such as IP address, request time, requested resource, and device or connection information. Their processing is governed by their respective privacy policies.
Kitabia does not use information received through these services for advertising or cross-application tracking.
Notifications and background operation
Kitabia uses local notifications for prayer alerts and reminders. Notification content may be visible on your lock screen depending on your device settings.
On supported devices, background processing may be used to refresh prayer schedules after a new day, reboot, clock or timezone change, or significant location change. Background location processing occurs only when Travel Mode is enabled and the required permission has been granted.
Permissions can be changed at any time through Kitabia's settings or your device settings. Revoking a permission may prevent the related feature from working correctly.
Backup, export, and sharing
Kitabia allows you to export application data as a JSON backup. The backup may contain prayer records, spiritual sessions, goals, fasting records, bookmarks, notification settings, and application preferences.
Exported backups are not encrypted by Kitabia. When you export or share a backup, it is delivered to the application, storage location, or person you select through the system interface. Copies saved outside Kitabia remain under your control and may remain available after Kitabia is uninstalled.
Similarly, Quran text or other content is shared only when you initiate sharing and select a destination.
Data retention and deletion
Locally stored information remains on your device until you:
- Edit or delete individual records.
- Use an available reset function.
- Delete downloaded content.
- Clear Kitabia's application data.
- Uninstall Kitabia.
Uninstalling the application normally removes data stored inside Kitabia's application container. It does not remove exported backups or copies retained in device or cloud backups.
If you contact us, support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the request, protect the application, or satisfy legal obligations.
Because your activity data is not stored on our servers, we generally cannot retrieve or delete it remotely.
Disclosure of information
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising. Information may be disclosed only:
- To a service provider required to deliver a feature you request.
- To a destination explicitly selected by you when exporting or sharing.
- When reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law or protect legal rights, but only for information we actually possess.
Security
Kitabia relies on the operating system's application sandbox and permission controls to protect locally stored information. However, no device or electronic storage method is completely secure.
Exported backup files are plaintext and should be stored and shared carefully. You are responsible for protecting your device, exported files, and any destination to which you send them.
Children's privacy
Kitabia is a general-audience spiritual and productivity application. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children through a Kitabia-operated online account or backend service.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through a support communication, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights relating to personal information held by us, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection.
Most Kitabia data exists only on your device and can be managed directly within the application or removed by clearing the application's data or uninstalling it.
You can withdraw location, background-location, exact-alarm, or notification permissions through your device settings. You may contact us regarding information submitted directly to us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Kitabia's features, service providers, or legal obligations change. The revised policy will include an updated effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the application or its store listing.
